We're delighted to share the news that Romford Retired Greyhounds have joined the Home Run Hounds group of homing centres from 1st April.

This move has come after months of planning and discussion between centres that have known each other since their days as Retired Greyhound Trust branches. Katie Isaac, who runs Romford Retired Greyhounds with her husband Andrew said “Joining forces with Home Run Hounds has been an easy decision for us. Becoming part of a forward-thinking charity, working with a team of people who have the same ethos and beliefs as ourselves, means we can work to drive homing forward and get more hounds into great homes.”

Romford Retired Greyhounds was running as a CIC so Katie and Andrew feel that coming under the more formal banner of a charity will have many benefits, particularly regarding fundraising, and both organisations can take advantage of each other’s extensive contacts and networks. They also pointed out advantages such as greyhounds being moved between branches if need be. Sometimes if a dog is struggling to find their forever home in one area, they may be luckier at another branch.

The two homing organisations will still operate as separate entities, retaining their identity and reputation that have been built up over time.

Will the group continue to grow? The answer is almost certainly yes. Katie feels that others may choose to join them given their innovative approaches to homing. There is a need for new ideas to solve the current demand for homes and they are exploring many of them. Home Run Hounds, for example, have a connection with the Canals & Rivers Trust so they often home to people on canal boats, while Romford Retired Greyhounds have built up links with homing organisations in America and Canada where there is a huge demand for greyhounds since the near total ban of racing within those countries.

On the new venture, Claire Butler, founder of Home Run Hounds said “Home Run Hounds are extremely excited to welcome Romford Retired Greyhounds to our charity. Katie, Andrew and the team bring a wealth of experience and expertise in the homing field and enable us to cover more of the country to help find our beloved breed their Happy Ever Afters. Romford becomes our 5th branch and we are very much looking forward to working with them.”
