Lambourn Open Day 2025
On Good Friday 2025, Greyhound Homing UK attended their first event!

A very early start saw us doing battle with the gazebo and howling winds by 8am on Friday, setting up our stand in the main arena at Lambourn for their annual Open Day.
That mission accomplished we headed to Seven Barrows, the home of Nicky Henderson, to show off the retired greyhound, Bingley who had joined us for the morning. Bingley, looking for his forever home, was impeccably behaved; unphased by the huge crowd, many who wanted to give him hugs, and the superstar horses such as Sir Gino and Sprinter Sacre who also wanted to say hi. We were lucky enough to meet the man himself, Nicky Henderson, and get a lovely picture or two. Nicky suggested we left Bingley there as “he’s faster than anything I’ve got”. I somehow doubt that!!
Several other greyhounds were visiting with their humans, all being great ambassadors for the breed; quietly getting on with their day without upsetting anyone.
For the afternoon we were back at the main showground with three more fantastic hounds; Maggie, Elvis and Naughty Boy (never has a dog been so inappropriately named!). Their dad, Brian, had brought them to help us and what a help they were. We had visitors around us all afternoon, many not aware of what fabulous pets greyhounds make. Children were cuddling them, begging parents to let them have one! There were hounds and Shetland Ponies careering around the arena – and many of the hounds unexpectedly outside of the arena too – but the dogs just took it all so calmly and did us proud. We were able to chat about greyhounds as pets, how well they fit into any hope or family make-up and what chilled companions they are.
We hope that at least one family will either decide to get a greyhound because of today or at least pass the word around that they are the best pets in the world!
